Nicholas, a 12 year old boy on the brink of manhood confronts the realities of his parents' crumbling relationship as he explores the invention of DNA in this scientific family drama for our troubled times. Rosalind Franklin, a loaded gun, and a dark family secret held tight for a generation explode as we're left to wonder: what is our DNA? And why?

"[HELIX, HELIX is]...deliciously meta-theatrical...gould and friends don’t seem too concerned about offending people and thank heavens! not that the troupe’s humor was particularly tangled up in blue, mind you. just that it was full tilt and unabashed. the writing (and set up) of the show is so close to a ’90s sitcom-cum-sloany-science-report that a less aware viewer might consider the writing bad. of course, the writing is good-bad and what saves it from being bad bad is gould’s choice of actors and deft directorial hand...my belly was full of this new vicious and victorious smart satire. gould + company are up to something, mes amis, may the pious theatre makers be ware!" -Kippy Winston aka Eliza Bent in Kippy Winston's Webblog

RACHEL

My. Cycle. It’s… we have to—

ERIC

What?

RACHEL

(pause)

RACHEL

If we don’t tonight…we need to wait a whole other month.

(pause)

RACHEL

Say something please.

ERIC (sighing)

Maybe another month is…maybe we need more time...

RACHEL

Time to what?

 ERIC (weary)

I don’t know, Rachel. I don’t know.

RACHEL

Oh.

(pause. She starts to tear up.)

ERIC (comforting her)

Oh, no…Rachel. I didn’t mean…Don’t cry, please. I’m sorry. I’m just…I’m stressed tonight. But I promise. Tomorrow night. It’ll be better.

(ERIC brushes her tears away)

RACHEL

No, it’s ok. I’m fine. It’s fine.

(pause)

ERIC

Listen, why don’t you read for a bit, and I’ll be up in an hour.  Okay?

RACHEL

Okay.

(He kisses her forehead and goes back to his work)

RACHEL (to herself)

Happy anniversary.
